But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagle; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

When your heart is filled with faith there is no room left for fear . "Our fate lives within us. You only need to be brave enough to see it." Diana Nyad, 63-year-old swimmer who swam from Cuba to Florida (September 2013) In the middle of the first week during a short month, when you are struggling with almost every initiative set forth by your manager and your company, if your manager happens to not be around do you leave at 5? Or do you stay until 6 or 6:30 focusing on preparing for the next day? Are you prepared to win days before or do you prepare the day of your customer appointments? Many jobs in this economy require more of you. Stand out in the crowd by stepping up to do more. If or when tough decisions about who stays and who goes arise, your stepping up and not always leaving at 5:00 or 5:01 will be remembered. Rise to the ocassion now and put forth the extra hours now. It's the fourth quarter, the clocks running out, and you have the ball...what more will you do extra to win? Even when your manager's away, they hear and sometimes even get pictures of your empty office at 5:05. Do what's right, what you know you need to do to win, even when you don't feel like it. It's the right thing to do and it models the way for others. If something's wrong with a customer's program or something you sold them, then it's better to come clean and tell them if you can't get it fixed quickly than for them to find out on their own. They may say they are having trust issues with you initially, but by coming clean first the real issue will be with the program or whatever it is you sold them. Work to resolve their issue quickly and regain their trust in what you sold them and that will rebuild their trust in you. Trust, it's the foundation of any relationship. Model the way for others on how to rebuild, maintain and grow trust. It's the right thing to do. At work if you need something or have a question, don't bypass your manager. Go to your manager first, then if needed let them direct you to go see someone else. By going directly to your manager's manager or to another manager, you may get inaccurate information, plus you don't get the opportunity to communicate with your direct manager. If you bypass your manager because you are impatient, then maybe God is trying to teach you patience and that by requiring an answer now may be a sign that you think think the world revolves around you. Learning to wait can help you become humble and improve your work relationships. Remember that God placed your manager over you for a purpose. By going around them or not communicating with them you could miss something that you are supposed to learn. Show respect by over-communicating with your manager and watch what will come out of the relationship. You might be surprised what you will see, learn, and experience. It's the right thing to do and it models the way by having patience and over-communicating. If you work, and unless you own your own business, you dont get to pick your manager. Your only two options when you get a new manager are: A) adapt to the new manager or B) quit. Working under different managers gives you the opportunity to learn and grow. Get to know the new manager and what they bring to the table. Sometimes it may take a while to understand why you are now reporting to them, but that is usually because you are not wanting to adapt to the change. Get your attitude right and see what you can learn from your new manager. Push through or quit. Quitting is easy. Pushing through is more challenging and where growth happens. Showing you can push through is a step in the right direction to model the way for those you love, those that love you, and those that respect you. He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much; and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. Luke 16:10 When someone at work retires, take the time to write them a note for their memory book or just to have. Recently a leader in my company who was involved in interviewing me, hiring me, and promoting me into management retired after 28 years. I already have an idea of what I plan to hand write to him this weekend and send. After all he has done for me, an hour out of my weekend is well worth it to show my appreciation and gratitude to this exceptional leader who has always had my back. It's the right thing to do and it models the way for others. When you disagree more often than not with your company's decisions and the leaders of your company, then it's time for you to leave. You don't want to become that negative employee that everyone can tell is not happy. Leave on your terms, before the company has you leave on theirs. Go find another company who you can align with where you can be positive and make an impact. It's the right thing to do and it models the way for others. |
