Great teams grow together. When you're part of a great team, great things happen. The words "I" and "me" and "you" seem to fade away and words like "our", "we" and "us" are used more. So if you ever have an opportunity to be part of a great team, take it. And enjoy the teamwork, career opportunity, excitement, growth, learning, and winning that you will experience there. After all, it's the right thing to do and it models the way for others.
In order for you to get better, you have to have a plan. I just spent the last six hours working on mine. If you don't take the time you'll never get better, because you won't have a plan in place to help get you there. Having a plan to get better is like a road map of where you are and where you want to be. So make sure that you have a talent management developmental plan and that you execute it at a high-level, because after all your career future is counting on it...and so is your checkbook. After all, it's the right thing to do and it models the way for others. Sometimes you have to make a quick trip, you don't always get to see the people that you really want to see. You may see several people that you want to see based on the trip, but unfortunately there's only so many hours in a day. So when you make a quick trip, make sure to let those people know that you would like to see, that you're not able to see him. Make plans to visit with them on another trip. After all, it's the right thing to do and it models the way for others. Getting a long weekend and taking a break from work is good for the head, body, and spirit. It allows you to step away and regroup, focus, and come back ready to win. It's amazing when you start out with the right mindset a week before the holiday, knowing that you're going to step away and get a break. It makes waking up tomorrow much better and exciting because of what you know you need to get back to go do. So learn to take a break from labor, on Labor Day andand be ready tomorrow morning to go make a difference. After all, it's the right thing to do and it models the way for others. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.y Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,z 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.a 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:b 6 Who, being in very naturea God,c did not consider equality with Goddsomething to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothinge by taking the very natureb of a servant,f being made in human likeness.g Phillipeans 2:3-7 NIV I will always remember these wise words from my dad when I graduated college, "Our home will always be your home, but your home will never be our home." Family should be there through the good times and the bad. It's okay to be yourself or just show your vulnerabilities. Check your ego at the door. Sometimes, even at 90+ year's old, you might hear a family member say..."I don't like for you to see me this way." And my response, the best response I could come up with, " it's okay, we're family, and that's how families should be and this is how I choose for our family to be.." I truly believe you should be true to who you really are, especially around your family. There is no better place to demonstrate servant leadership than within your family. After all, that what your family is for...plus it's the right thing to do and it models the way for others. As I'm hanging out with my aunt and uncle with my sister, I'm getting a history lesson. Make sure that you take the time to ask questions to ask about your family history, while the people they can answer the questions you have or alive. In this digital age we live in, now most records can be found online but for the boomers and the greatest generation, you'll want to make sure that you take the time to ask about your family history. So make sure you go to the source or the most knowledgeable elder and your family's patriarch or matriarch and ask. After all, it's the right thing to do and it models the way for others. Sometimes you need to go with your gut instinct. Last week my mother-in-law had a bad fall, and last night her leg was looking much worse. My wife's gut instinct was to take her mother to the hospital, and I supported her plan. At the hospital, my mother-in-law was admitted, pumped full of antibiotics, and then this afternoon, they did surgery on her leg and found a blood clot on her knee and infection throughout her leg. If my wife didn't follow her gut instinct, my mother-in-law might have had a different outcome. Understand your gut instinct is there for a reason, so follow your gut instinct. After all, it's the right thing to do in the models the way for others. It's much better to be proactive than reactive. When you're proactive you control the shots. When you're reactive, somebody else is controlling the shots. Being proactive allows you to impact the outcome greater than you responding to a situation. So learn to take action and be proactive. After all, it's the right thing to do and it models the way for others. |
