I learned several years ago to watch the words that come out of people's mouths, every single word. Because the words coming out of someone's mouth are coming out of their mouth for a reason, and if you just pay attention and notice what they're saying, how they're saying it, and the words they are using it will help you understand them and where they're coming from. You can also uncover specific issues that are going on or certain feelings that one may have because of what they say. Paying attention to the words people say will also help improve your listening skills and it's the right thing to do and it models the way for others.
