6 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”[a]
- Ephesians 6:3 Deut. 5:16
Honor defined by Merriam-Webster:
Main Entry: 2hon·or
Inflected Form(s): hon·ored;hon·or·ing \ˈä-nə-riŋ, ˈän-riŋ\
Date: 13th century
1 a : to regard or treat (someone) with admiration and respect : to regard or treat with honor b : to give special recognition to : to confer honor on
So therefore, the only two commands directed specifically to children in the Bible are to obey your parents and to honor your father and mother, or as Merriam-Webster defines honor as treating them with admiration and respect.
