During a recent ice storm a family was shoveling snow on driveways when we received a foot of snow on our street. The dad and mom were teaching the daughter and son how to work hard by shoveling the snow on the driveways for money. They had a big snow shovel and a flat headed regular shovel, so I offered them an extra shovel that I carry in my car when snow comes. I told the family they can use my snow shovel to make money for their family, but please return it to my front porch when they were done.
I really respected the father and mother for teaching their children the value of working hard. Unfortunately the shovel is not been returned. While the parents taught the children the value of hard work, they did not teach them the value of honesty and being a person of your word by returning my snow shovel.
A good work ethic from a thief is worse than a bad work ethic.Teach your children well, which includes more than just teaching them a good work ethic and the value of hard work. After all, it's the right thing to do and models the way for others.
