Yesterday I came up with these words in a discussion with a sales rep on my team. "You may not follow me, where I may go."
Whether it's you don't want to work that hard, or your ego gets in the way. I have learned from experience that the best leaders are able to walk others down a path of self discovery so it is clear that the vision cast by the leader is a destination that makes the journey worthwhile. It's only then that when faced with a fork in the road and a decision must be made to follow or not to follow that those that are the most challenging see the destination for what it truly is, a better place to be. After all, the journey to your destination is well worth it when you look back from the destination towards the journey pathway. Plus it models the way for others.
