Sometimes it's just best to bite your tongue. The natural response is to react when you feel attacked. Sometimes the way someone asks you something or the words they use, you naturally get defensive. Understand that your defensiveness is most likely because you have issues from your childhood or upbringing that you have never dealt with. So next time you feel yourself getting defensive, bite your tongue, and reflect on why you are feeling the way you are. What do you need to learn or understand about yourself from this experience? Whatever it is, make sure to bite your tongue. After all, it's the right thing to do and it models the way for others.
