Give hugs to your family and friends. If you aren't comfortable with it, get used to it. Go to Miami and visit your Cuban friend for a week and you will feel the love and care of that family friendly loving culture. It's a great thing to do to model the way for others and show that you care.
In today's digital age take time to hand write a note or letter. Whether to a family member, friend, or after an interview. It will stand out because it took extra effort to do it. Some traditions and ways of old are a better way to do it and model the way for others. Make time to get together with your family. Both your immediate family and your extended family. Accept one another for who they are. But also encourage them to become better and do more . It's the right thing to do and it models the way for how family's should be. Do what you say you're going to do, no matter what. If you can't do it, don't open you mouth or communicate via text, email or online that you will. This is the first step to building trust. Model this for others because it's the right thing to do. It takes helpers to do great and noble things. In order to achieve greatness you need to either ask for and receive help along the way OR help others in their quest for greatness. Either way when you are part of building or doing something great or noble, it makes your day and life much more rewarding. Imagine what a better place this world would be if everyone achieved or helped another person achieve a great or noble cause. Now go and do that...staring today, because it's the right thing to do and it molded the way for others. "My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from Him." -Psalm 62:5 Take time to visit someone sick at the hospital. Yesterday my manager, who is also a friend, came by to visit me in the hospital and he sat with my wife while I was in surgery. It really meant a lot to me, I guess because he took time out of his day, he drove downtown, found a place to park, and found his way to the outpatient surgery waiting area. I had two other visitors that came by to visit, but I had already been discharged before they arrived. As long as they're not contagious, visiting someone sick can help make their day and encourage them to get better. It's a wonderful thing to do and it models the way for others. When you genuinely are about others, it's only natural that others care about you. I feel very blessed as I go into surgery today after all the well wishes from my work family and team. It really meant a lot to me yesterday the number of people that stopped by and said they hoped today went well and that they were going to keep me in their thoughts and prayers. I am truly blessed to work with such a wonderful group of people. Care for others and put others first. It's the right thing to do and it models the way for others. Having surgery can bring out the best in others, whether it's others praying for you, thinking of you, or getting good vibes sent to you. Difficult situations like having surgery helps you understand who really cares about you as a person. Genuinely caring about and caring for others is contagious and it's the right thing to do, plus it models the way for others. Only by grow and learning about yourself can you understand who you are and who you are not. Go to www.youruniquedesign.com and take the assessment to help understand how God wired you and what your God given gifts are. I personally took this assessment as part of the Men's Fraternity Great Adventure study. From the study I was able to develop my very own customized personal mission statement that I have posted on my website. Now that I have that, any decision for a new job and volunteer or leadership opportunities are run through that filter of who I am and who I am not. A recent job posting within my company that I was qualified to apply for would have been a promotion, but it would require more overnight travel and less span of control or influence. So I passed on the opportunity, because it didn't give me the opportunity to have a bigger impact and it would require more travel. Understanding who you are and who you are not helps you have a bigger impact for God and model the way for others. |
