When a child asks if the "tooth fairy" is real, they are questioning what they believe. It's very refreshing that my daughter has only asked if the "tooth fairy" is real. She has never asked that about God or Jesus. My wife and I, along with her school and church teacher/ leaders must be doing something right. Do you know what you believe? Figure it out so you know the answer before you get asked. After all, it's the right thing to do when it models the way for others.
Feedback from an honest, blunt, positive genuine, caring, person is the best received feedback. Understand that you should take feedback from anyone though. Be open to taking feedback and doing something with it. It is how you get better. You may receive feedback that you might not agree with, but you need to understand that the person giving you feedback that their feelings and perceptions are real. So take the feedback as a gift and say: "Thank you for giving me that feedback. I'm going to work on that and it's going to make me be the best me." After all, it's the right thing to do and models the way for others. Skip level feedbackskip level feedback is very similar to a 360 feedback. It gives you feedback from people that directly report to you. The goal is to help the leader who is getting the feedback become better. Just remember, that the feedback is a gift and it's how people feel so ultimately you need to take the feedback except it and work to respond to it. After all, it's the right thing to do and it models the way for others. Should you try and sell your friends? In today's world with Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn many friends tried to sell products or services to their friends. Regardless of the product, the question is does it make sense to try and sell your friends? If you are a real estate agent, well the buying cycle is once every 5 to 10 years maybe so I'm okay with that, because I know who we would want to sell our house if we put our house up for sale so I think that's different than beauty, health, fitness, oils or all natural cleaning products. I am excited for many of my friends that sell their services online, but I just made a rule about six years ago that I would not buy or sell products or services with my friends. It keeps our friendship intact and it doesn't cause my friends or me to want to avoid each other. I don't want to have to de-friend any friend for being too pushy with their product. Although it's happened, it just boils down to being a personal choice for me. At the end of my life I want to be surrounded with great family and friends, more than I want to push friends away by being too much with any product or service I might try to sell them. My only exception is that I will support my friend kids, that's it. This post is not meant to offend any friends pushing your wares, I just choose not to buy, so please don't ask. "With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding." Job 12:12 The approach in which you deliver a message matters. When you lead, lead from the heart. Whether it is your family or a work group...understanding them, their history, and their heart makes all the difference in being able to help manage the necessary change. Make sure that when you deliver a message that you don't crush their spirit. If you deliver a message to someone that is part of a group, understand how you deliver it can impact the entire group. So make sure that you deliver the message in the best possible way. In a way that will help them get better and not be beaten down. After all, it's the right thing to do and it models the way for others. It's okay to vent, but make sure that you don't give excuses. Work on bringing a solution for every problem that you have to solve. Sometimes you just need to get it out, but make sure that once you vent you figure out a way to move past it. Otherwise you will just stay stuck in the mud. After all, it's the right thing to do and it models the way for others. Dates and deadlines are important to know. If you have a deadline, make sure you have it on your calendar. Make sure you double check the actual date is what you have on your calendar. Otherwise you could miss a deadline or an opportunity to sell your product or service. So verify your dates and make sure that you stick to your deadlines. After all, it's the right thing to do and it models the way for others. What do you do when you find yourself starting to fizzle out? You go back to the filundimentals, the basics, and focus on improving your foundations of success. Be relentless and never give up. After all, it's the right thing to do and models the way for others. Sometimes you may need crutches to help you transition from bad to good. Just make sure that you wean yourself off the crutches accordingly and that they don't become permanent. After all, it's the right thing to do and models the way for others. |
